Indiana Junior Olympics Qualifier

December 13, 2009: IFC Fencer Daniel Anez qualified for the JO's by taking FIRST place in foil! WOW! Nice Work Dan!

Indiana University Fall Open

October 24, 2009: Several clubmembers competed in the IU Fall Open in Bloomington. John Quatroche and Bill Winget tied for third in foil, which was an E1 event. Bill also placed third in epee, while John took 6th. Dan DeForrest placed 8th after an elimination by Bill. Shamus Crockett placed 21st. Epee started a B1 tourney, but ended C1. Nice job, IFC fencers!

Remenyik Open

October 17, 2009: The Remenyik Open in Chicago was a USFA Regional Open Circuit event: a big tourney! Men’s Epee was an A4, with 29 A’s, 26 B’s, and 19 C’s. Ben Frederiksen placed 61st out of 106, a very respectable finish.
Men's Foil was an A3 event with 8 A’s, 21 B’s, and 10 C’s. Dan Anez placed 24th out of 81, unfortunately eliminated by the post-pools 1st seed. Nice job, Dan!
Women’s Foil was an A2 event, with 6 A’s, 4 B’, and 10 C’s. Jamie Toalston fought her way to 16th out of 51.

Purdue Fall Open

October 10, 2009: Dan Anez placed 1st in foil and 2nd in epee at the Purdue Fall Open! Both events were B2 (foil-25, epee-32). Congrats to our other epeeists: John Quatroche for 7th place, Ben Frederiksen for 12th, and Shamus Crockett for 18th at his very first tournament - nice job! Our foilists were sadly set up to eliminate each other post-pools; John Q placed 22, taken out by Jim, who continued through another DE before being taken out by Dan to place 8th. :-) Well played, everyone!

Storm the Fort Open

October 3, 2009: John Quatroche seeded 2nd in epee after pools at the Storm the Fort Open in Ft. Wayne. With a final placement of 5th, he fought well! John also placed 7th in foil, where in pools he defeated the opponent that had earlier eliminated him in epee DEs. Ultimately, he was taken out by the first-place foilist.

DeCiccio Open

September 27, 2009: Nice job to Ben Frederiksen for his 19th place at the DeCiccio Open at Notre Dame. With 6 A's and 7 B's competing, it was quite a tournament!

IFC Picnic...

It was good to see everyone who attended the free IFC Picnic August 11, 2009! Thankyou, we appreciate and share your enthusiasm for fencing! Turnout was great. 18 people participated in One-Touch Epee. Others fenced foil and saber, or chatted and munched on burgers, hotdogs, cookies and pie. Congrats are due to Ben Frederiksen for winning One-Touch Epee. It was a fun event, with many upsets. ;-) But Ben earned the prize, a $25 gift certificate for fencing gear!

Chicago Lakeshore Fencers Club Open

July 27, 2009: Ben Frederiksen placed 9th out of 22 in the A1 epee event at the Chicago Lakeshore Fencers Club Open (and BBQ). Be sure to ask him whether the BBQ was tasty. :-)

Lady of the Lake Open

May 30, 2009: Ben Frederiksen fenced valiantly at the Lady of the Lake Open in Dublin OH. In the A1 epee event, he was unfortunately taken out by the second place finisher to place 13th. The event was a tough A1, featuring 4 A's, 3 B's, and 7 C's. Well fought, Ben!

Great Lakes Sectional

April 18, 2009: Congratulations to Dan Anez for a 2nd place finish in Foil at the Great Lakes Sectional event! His only down at pools was A-rated fencer Ryan Howell. When matched together at quarterfinals, Dan overran him for the win, to earn his B09! Well done, Dan; we all saw it coming! :-) Ben Frederiksen placed 19th in Epee, out of a field of 25 which included 6 As and 9 Bs. Nice job Ben!

2009 Indianapolis Fencing Club Spring Open, Overall Results

Thank you all for attending the Indianapolis Fencing Club Spring Open on May 2nd 2009. The IFC extends their gratitude to the directors Val Kizik, Andria Hine, and Ellen Kizik from IndySabre; Sean Shumate from Louisville Fencing Club; and Josh Williams from River City Fencing. Congratulations to the winners and thank you all for a wonderful tournament!

CONGRATULATIONS to Daniel Anez on his dominant performance at the Indianapolis Fencing Club Spring Open. Daniel placed FIRST, renewed his B09 rating in foil with relative ease, proving that Daniel is on his way to his A rating. Keep in mind that Daniel fenced the foil competition after he placed SECOND in the epee competition, earning his C09 rating !

We also want to congratulate Tanner Millazo and Mike Reed, our new members who fenced in their very first tournament this weekend. Both boys fenced extremely well and showed real class in the process. When you see them this week, please give them a pat on the back. We are all very proud.

Congratulations Ben for taking 8th out of 25 in a A2 event!

Club Results from Great Lakes Sectional Championships April 18, 2009

Foil
2nd place: Daniel Anez earning B09!

IFC Coach Jim Owen, "The semi final bout with Ryan Howell showed that Daniel's long attack and quick counter attack moving backward are dangerous to any level of opponent. The final touch was an incredible change of tempo touch. Daniel was a serious threat to take the tournament down. His concentration and exeution were truely 'on.' In the final, Daniel came out steaming against Little Joe, taking a three to zero lead within the first thirty seconds! Streb is a formidible A, with a ton of high level experience. The bout went back and forth, with a tie at the end of the first period 7 to 7, and a tie at the end of the second period 11 to 11. In the third period, Streb's riposte was the end of our hero. Congratulations to Daniel Anez. He is very, very close to that A rating!"

Epee
19th place: Benjamin Frederiksen

Ben Fredricksen placed 19th in Epee, out of a field of 25 which included 6 As and 9 Bs. Nice job Ben!
